Privacy

proxycost is a calculator. There is no account, no sign-up and no newsletter, and we have no interest in knowing who you are. This page says exactly what happens to the little data that does move around.

Last updated 2026-10-03.

What we do not collect

No name, no email, no address, no payment details — the site never asks for any of them. We do not have a user database. We do not sell or share data with data brokers, and we do not run any tracking pixel or social widget.

Your basket stays in your browser

The items you add, the destination country and any weight or price you type are never sent to us to be stored. The comparison itself is computed in your browser from tables that ship with the page.

Since 2026-09-19 they are kept on your device, so that reloading the page or stepping over to another page here does not throw away what you typed. They are written in two places, both under your control: the address bar (the basket is encoded in the URL, which is what makes a comparison shareable) and this site’s local storage, under the key proxycost.cart.v1. Neither leaves your browser. There is no identifier in either of them — only the items, prices, weights and destination you entered.

To get rid of it: empty the basket (that erases the saved copy as well), or open the site with a plain address with nothing after the ?, or clear this site from your browser storage settings. Anyone you send the link to sees the basket that is in the link, so treat it as you would any other thing you paste into a chat.

Searching and pasting links

Two things do leave your browser, and only when you ask for them:

  • A keyword search. The words you type are sent to our server, which forwards them to the Brave Search API to get results back. Brave receives the query text and our request, not your identity.
  • A listing URL. Our server fetches that page to read the price, the shipping terms and any weight it states, and, when the page states them, the item’s dimensions (all three sides) and the domestic shipping size class the seller names, such as “60 size”. We keep only those numbers and the class; the listing’s description is not stored or shown anywhere. We can switch this reading off with a single setting. The shop sees a request from our server, not from you.

We keep no database of what people searched for. Our host, Cloudflare, keeps ordinary request logs — IP address, time, path, and request headers such as the referrer — for a short period as part of running and protecting the service, in the same way any web server does. The Analytics section below says more about what that referrer can contain.

Cookies and local storage

The site sets no cookies of its own. It writes two values in your browser local storage, and no others: proxycost.consent.v1, holding nothing but the word granted or denied, so the banner does not ask again on every page; and proxycost.cart.v1, holding the basket and destination described above. Both stay on your device and neither is ever sent to us.

To change your consent answer, clear this site from your browser storage settings. The banner will ask again; the only other thing you lose is your saved basket.

Saving the basket is not behind the consent banner, for the same reason the counts below are not: it stores what you yourself typed, in order to do the one thing you came here for, it stays on your device, and it creates no identifier — so there is nothing in it that could recognise you, here or anywhere else. That is our reading of what the rules call storage strictly necessary for a service the user asked for; it is not legal advice. If you disagree with it, write to us at the address below.

Advertising

The site may show display advertising from Google AdSense, in one slot below the results. It behaves as follows:

  • Nothing from an ad network loads until you press Accept. Press Reject and no ad script is requested at all, which means no advertising cookie is set.
  • With consent, Google and its partners may set cookies or read device identifiers to select and measure ads. Their handling is covered by how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
  • Ads are never placed inside the comparison, and an advertiser cannot buy a position in the ranking. The slot is labelled as unrelated to the ranking.

Analytics

We count three things, and nothing else: that someone searched or pasted a listing URL, that a comparison was shown, and that someone clicked through to a proxy service. We are trying to answer one question — of the people who see a comparison, how many go on to a proxy.

What leaves your browser is one word. Each of those three events sends a single request to this site carrying one of entry, results or outbound. It does not carry what you searched for, the listing URL you pasted, the items in your cart, their prices or weights, the totals, your destination country, or which proxy service you clicked. This count loads no third-party script of its own — it is a single request straight to this site — so none of this reaches anyone else.

No cookie and no visitor ID. We do not set a cookie, create an identifier for you, or let the counting read anything stored in your browser — the saved basket described above is never sent with these events and the counting never looks at it — so we cannot tell one visit from another or follow you between pages. What we get back is three running counts. Because of that, the figure we can compute is a ratio of counts, not a rate per person. Our server necessarily receives your IP address and browser User-Agent when your browser makes any request, as every website does; for these three events we do not record them. Each event is counted at most once per page load.

That is what our own code does — it is not the whole picture. Every request to this site, including the one each of those three events makes to /api/e, passes through Cloudflare, our host, and Cloudflare keeps its own short-lived request log the way any host does — your IP address, the request headers, and the page’s Referer. Because the basket lives in the page URL (see above), that Referer can include your basket. We do not read that log for analysis, and it plays no part in the three counts above; it exists only as part of running the service on Cloudflare’s infrastructure, and it ages out on Cloudflare’s own log retention. We are not going to put a number of days on that here — it depends on the hosting plan and we have not confirmed it for this account.

Cloudflare Web Analytics is on the site, counting page views. It records aggregate figures only — page path, referrer, country, device type, browser and operating system — never anything you typed into the calculator. It does not use cookies or browser storage to do this, and Cloudflare states that it does not fingerprint visitors using their IP address, User-Agent string or any other data (see Cloudflare’s documentation). Because it sets nothing on your device and does not read your basket or search terms, it is not behind the consent banner, the same reasoning as the three-event count above — this is separate from the ad consent described below. If we ever want something from Cloudflare that does need a cookie, that goes behind the consent banner like the ads do.

If you are in the EU or the UK

Germany, France and the United Kingdom are destinations this calculator supports, so we assume EU and UK visitors. Nothing that requires consent is loaded before you give it: the banner appears first, both buttons are equally available, and Reject is a real answer that we remember. The lawful basis for the ad script is your consent; for serving the page itself, and for the three-event count and Cloudflare Web Analytics described above, it is our legitimate interest in running and understanding a working website.

The three-event count and Cloudflare Web Analytics described above are not behind the banner, and we want to be plain about why: neither stores anything on your device nor reads anything from it, and neither creates an identifier, so there is nothing about either for you to consent to storing. Rejecting the banner does not change them, because there is nothing there to switch off beyond those counts. If you disagree with that reading, write to us at the address below.

Because we hold no account data, there is normally nothing personal of yours for us to show, correct or erase. If you believe we hold something about you, write to us and we will look.

Referral fees

No proxy service pays us anything today. As of 2026-09-19 we have no affiliate contract with any of the five companies this calculator compares, so no outbound link earns us a referral fee, and none is marked rel="sponsored" — links to the five proxy services carry plain rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" and none is marked sponsored. If that ever changes for a company, this page will say so, by name, with the date it started.

The ranking is decided by total cost alone. Whether a company pays us is displayed on its row, and it is never an input to the sort — the code never reads that field when it orders rows. The code itself is not public, but every number it adds up is: read the assumptions behind every total, and tell us on our feedback tracker if a total does not match what you were charged.

Children

The site is not directed at children and collects nothing that would identify anyone, whatever their age.

Changes

When this page changes, the date at the top changes with it. The three-event count described above has been live since 2026-09-19; Cloudflare Web Analytics has been live since 2026-09-20.
